Learn to Row

Discover the joy of rowing with Swan River Rowing Club

Our Learn to Row program is the perfect introduction to this dynamic sport, whether its your finst time in a boat, or you just want to have a go.

Private Lessons – Sculling

We offer flexible one-on-one lessons in a single scull with our experienced coaches, Bruce Strickland and David Butt.

  • Introductory package: 4 sessions for $165 (plus $10 Rowing WA fee)

These sessions provide a personalised approach, focusing on balance, technique, and water confidence at a pace that suits you.

Group Courses – Sweep Rowing

From time to time we run 4-week group courses in sweep rowing, using an eight-person boat (8+). These courses are a great way to experience the teamwork and camaraderie of rowing in a crew. In addition, the annual Corporate Challenge is a great way for you and a group of colleagues to learn to row in a compressed time frame, with the added fun and excitement of a racing regatta at its conclusion. Key elements of the courses:

  • Suitable for complete beginners
  • Learn the basics of boat handling, timing, and power on the water
  • Enjoy the fun and social connection of learning with others

Pathways Beyond Learn to Row

Completing Learn to Row opens the door to a wide range of opportunities at Swan River Rowing Club. You can:

  • Row socially – enjoy regular sessions on the water without pressure
  • Join a squad – develop your skills further in our masters, juniors, or senior squads
  • Stay active – rowing offers a full-body, low-impact workout suitable for all ages

Rowing is not only about fitness – it’s about building friendships, learning new skills, and being part of a vibrant riverside community.
